The War on Walmart: Who’s afraid of cheap groceries?

ReasonTV asked:

Retail giant Walmart is planning to open its first stores in New York City and Washington, DC That’s got local politicians and activists up in arms. “Walmart, keep your plantation because there are no more slaves,” says New York City Councilman Charles Barron. Walmart will make criminals of our children, argues Washington DC commissioner Brenda Speaks, because “kids are kids” so they’ll shoplift and then “security will grab them.” If we’re tricked into welcoming Walmart through our city gates “wrapped up in a shiny package,” explains New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, it will take over and destroy us. So what’s getting anti-Walmart activists so riled up? The answer: cheap groceries. Written and produced by Jim Epstein, with help from Joshua Swain. Narrated by Nick Gillespie. Approximately 7.30 minutes.

F-ing thugs. This kind of shit is only possible with the monopoly power of governments.
Also, that small organic grocer needs to view Walmart not as his competition, but as a way to distinguish himself from the mainstream. This is his opportunity to adapt and provide the best quality organic foods, specialty items, and premium products that Walmart simply won’t mess with. He should close shop, so a TRUE entrepreneur can take his place and enrich the local economy.

“For the first time, kids will have a record. Cuz kids are kids, and they will go in those stores and pick up things, n security is gonna grab em, and that’s crime!”
This line made me laugh so hard I actually fell off my chair! XDD

This is the basic neo-liberal argument; they saw if we all get to pay lower prices, we all benefit.

What they dont mention is that means lower wages for us, so we cant afford the cheaper goods anyway. The American Middle Class was born in the boom of post ww2 when America controlled everything. Those days will not be replicated unless we bomb everyone else again.

Yeah, I had to replay that part. That sums up the logical capacity of these mobs, I guess.

What a bunch of morons! “HURR we shouldn’t build a Wal-Mart because kids might shoplift from it!” That’s like saying “We shouldn’t build a bridge because someone might spray-paint it!”

Seriously you obviously don’t want a logical debate just assumptions of what I believe in, besides the initiation of force being the root of all our problems. And you say I don’t want to have a rational debate even though I gave you evidence when you accused me of “making up shit”. And you keep straw manning everything I say like 90% of statist *debatist” do, I’ve seen it hundreds of times. Even statists, you’d hate do the exact same thing! LOL! Good bye statist enjoy!

@SarionFetec Where did I say anything about WW2?

See, that exposes how you are unable to have a rational debate.. You dont actually respond to what is said, you just post your pre-determined ideas. Which is fine, but it’s not going to be informative for either involved. I get that you think that ‘government’ is the cause of all problems. But that is an incredibly sophomoric critique which requires a very, very limited of the past 400 years in USA. I’ll leave u to your fantasies

So tell me, how is raising taxes on the rich to 60 percent help end the depression? It was enacted in 1932? Do you know when the depression ended? At the end of ww2! Did the tax hikes work? Did the bid to protect american jobs work? NO! It BACKFIRED! And say the ww2 was good, because it *stimulated* that’s like saying kids breaking windows of a shop, because those shops have to hire window repairmen!

Are you bloody kidding me? You have not one logical bone in your body? You’re an ignorant beyond belief, there’s one opinion so that’s the automatic truth? And that opinion is backed by NO evidence, just based on the public ignorance like yourself. So if you know so much about it, and you read about what did they do to make it so much better? How could doing what they got them in the depression the first place get them out of it? Isn’t that the definition of insanity?
